I think the financial irresponsibility that plagues the hip hop and urban R&B community is disgusting.Hip hop started as a way for urban youth to express themselves. As they progressed it became a way to rise out of their struggle no more welfare, no more projects, no more dead end jobs. Awesome. They could care for their families this way. It isn’t illegal and it was safe. But now…… nope. Most, not all, rappers have become obsessed with money. How to get it, how to spend it, how to flaunt it….but not how to keep it. Don’t tweet me about Jay-Z and Diddy. There’s thousands of rappers out there who aren’t them. Everyone can’t brand themselves. So while some rappers have found the music industry lucrative, they’re still just “a nigga in a coupe/coop”. When you’re twitpicing which luxury car you’re going to drive today you’re not showing us how much you owe in taxes. A LOT (I do mean A LOT) of rappers lease their jewelry, houses, cars and other luxury items. THOSE THINGS DON’T BELONG TO THEM. You got a $175,000 chain on, the medallion is your face…………and you don’t EVEN own it. I’m not knocking the mainstream industry. I’m also not knocking how indie is becoming mainstream. What I am knocking is how DJ Kool Herc was damn near on his deathbed with no health insurance. Rappers, y’all gotta do better. You don’t have to save every cent but make sure your bank account looks good before you do. Stuntin is a BAD habit. Remember The Lox? They were balls deep in debt to Diddy. They’re not the first. Hundreds of rappers get stuck owing money. Their run ends, show money stops comin in, album sales halt. BAM. You’re BROKE. And many of them call themselves investing in businesses but they aren’t businessmen. They’re “investing” in their cousins baby daddy’s barbershop that goes belly up after a few years and now that was a waste of $350,000. It’s cool if you know this shit already….but don’t mention me about it because I don’t care. Unfollow if you must. There’s artists who spent more time learning and less time leaning. They’re doing o-gotdamn-kay right now. Diddy learned enough about business and the music business to know it’s dirty. Get your check and move to the next pawn. As fucked up as that sounds….it’s true. Many of the aspiring rappers on my timeline wanna rap for the wrong reasons. Fame ain’t shit if you’re not managing it right. Same goes for $. You got a Bentley, Maybach,Lambo and a stable of horse you can’t ride. But have you paid your taxes? Your child support? Rappers are actors. And they’re regular niggas. They just have money at their disposal. It’s not even their money usually. They get advance checks, they floss like a gotdamn dentist, the album is shit…………BAM they’re in debt. In my last rant I talked about show money. You wanna be a great rapper, cool…hone them skills scrap. Learn to give people an amazing performance. Show money > Album sales. Most albums don’t even go platinum like they used to. And honestly, some of the greatest artists are independent and never even chart. Anyway doe…make sure you’re taking care of your finances. Your favorite rapper probably doesn’t. Holla. -drops mic and reopens mentions-
