There’s a whole pool of jokes about Joe Budden on Twitter. His girlfriend, Kaylin, never leaves the pool (or his side). He’s washed up. Slaughterhouse is trash. He’s a joke since he’s gonna appear on VH1′s Love & Hip Hop. He’s too emotional. The list continues…

An entertainer’s purpose is to entertain. Whether you’re praising or heckling…are you not entertained? Continue reading

Alchemist is a Goddamn genius. He knows how to craft a beat to an artist. Action Bronson has a nostalgic feel that oozes from his voice. Pair his smoky yet smooth voice and pithy bars with Alan The Chemist’s cinematic horns and revelatory guitars and you have auricular therapy.

Usually features can take away from an experience for me but Rare Chandeliers has a balance where the features are working for me. Styles P, ScHoolboy Q, Evidence, Sean Price, Roc Marciano, etc. That’s a heavy list of lyrical artillery. Bronson & Co. meld wonderfully on this project like a well whisked souffle’.

Bronson is dope in the kitchen but when he step in the booth? His imagery is beautiful, it’s like watching a movie. Download Rare Chandeliers here and thank me later.

Hi. Yes. I am blogging sporadically now….because I feel like it.

I was bombarded with unsigned hype the other day on Twitter. When I ask people why I should listen to their music they always tell me it’s because they are better than someone else.

Don’t do that.

You know what that sounds like to informed ears? That sounds like a guy that wants to date a girl but the only way he can get her attention is by telling her that her current boyfriend is cheating on her or at least flirting with a chick she doesn’t like.

Tell. Me. What. Makes. YOU. Dope.

If you REALLY believe in your craft and you know without a doubt that you’re giving it your absolute all…you won’t have a problem listing what’s cool about your music. You shouldn’t feel inclined to automatically bash another rapper, known or not, in order to get people to want to listen to you. It’s cool to be confident. You should be. But what you should not be is a bad sport. Poking your peers in the eye where your music is concerned is a no-no. A lot of semi-successful and successful rappers will tell you this. You NEVER know where your music could potentially take you. Athletes, local business owners, etc….no matter what industry you work in this applies. Don’t try to shit on your competition or peers. You may end up needing them. Or you may end up having to work WITH them.

Think about current chart topping rap artists.

2 Chainz. How many songs does he have on Billboard BY HIMSELF?
Drake. How many songs does he have on Billboard BY HIMSELF?
Rick Ross. How many songs does he have on Billboard BY HIMSELF?
Kanye West. How many songs does he have on Billboard BY HIMSELF?

The list goes on. It is easy to increase your monetary worth when you can find someone equally as marketable and team up with them after you have made a buzz.

Don’t sabotage your future.
Holla.

Whatupdoe? It’s been awhile but while I was gone I turned 28, fell in love with myself, moved to New Jersey and decided I’m not selfish for being happy. Anyway doe…

I’m always on Twitter. Always. No matter what (usually). So a couple of days ago I see this frenzy about Frank Ocean “coming out”. So I finally said to myself “Let’s go read this “confession”". If you haven’t read it you can find it here.

Now, reading comprehension is important and while reading I don’t think he’s saying he’s gay. I don’t. I think he’s saying he fell in love with a man. He may or may not be gay right NOW. He may or may not have sex with men right NOW. He may or may not date men right NOW. Everyone in OFWGKTA is pretty cryptic anyway so…interpret it however you want, isn’t that what ya’ll do anyway?

Is Frank Ocean gay? He could be.
Do I care? No. It isn’t any of my business.
Do I still love his music? You Goddamn right I do.

What he does in his personal life shouldn’t affect anyone or sway them from the genius that has manifested itself in his heart and mind. The man can write the fuck out of a song…fuck all that other shit. After this whole thing came spilling out onto Twitter I saw a lot of nasty commentary. “Can’t listen to him anymore, he’s a f*g”…”this nigga is a f*ggot…can’t even rock Watch The Throne no more”….etc etc etc….

Pull your panties from your asscrack. The fact that you give a fuck that he may or may not be gay makes me question your sexuality. You should be so concerned with fuckin bitches (or your woman if you were cool enough to have one) that you won’t have time or energy to devote to another man’s penis and where it goes at night.

Homophobia is a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT). Definitions refer variably to antipathy, contempt, prejudice, aversion, irrational fear, and hatred.

Running to Twitter to call Frank and any other person a f*ggot, telling everyone what is and isn’t gay, explaining why gay is wrong and making sure we all know how “abnormal” gay is are all things that homophobic people do. You don’t have to be male to be homophobic. You also don’t have to be straight to be homophobic. But what’s funny is people will act like homophobes but won’t admit to any kind of fear…but clearly you’re afraid of any and everything that’s gay. I was told on Twitter yesterday that times have changed and the outpouring of f*gs is a sign of the end of the world. Um…or how about people being comfortable and brave enough to come out and tel strangers their personal business just so they can be themselves openly is a sign of tolerance. Perspective my sons, perspective.

Living in such a judgmental society that frowns on non-conformity, revolution (but applauds fake revolution…nvm though.), “alternative lifestyles” and “abnormality” can be difficult. Interracial couples, biracial children, expressive individuals who use hair color and/or body modification to do so, tattooed people, polyamorous individuals, etc… This list could continue for a long time. We all have to be tolerant of something. Racist whites have to be tolerant of you little niggercoons fuckin up their (fake) white land. Bible thumpers have to be tolerant of non-religious folks. Teachers have to be tolerant of ignorant ass students/parents.

Why not be tolerant to gays? What did they do to you? (nothing.) How is the way that they love affecting you or your life or your loved ones? (it’s not.) How does what they wear affect you? (it doesn’t.)

Sometimes folks just need to hate something. Anything. It doesn’t even matter what it is. Drop that raggedy ass mob mentality. Figure out how anyone being gay should bother you (answer: it shouldn’t. mind your own fucking business). And then….go listen to Frank Ocean’s “Swim Good”. Not only is it fire…but after that letter he wrote…it’s very telling.

Relax.

Niki :-)
